A Week of Exclusive Content at The Esports Advocate
A big list in case you missed anything this week!
Maybe you’ve been busy this week and missed it, but here are some of the stories I worked on (I’ve been busy too!).
Last Saturday I spent my weekend writing about the Silicon Valley Bank collapse and gauged whether or not it affected any esports organizations or related companies in the Los Angeles area. Thankfully the exposure to risk was minimal for most. Read More.
At the start of the week we debunked a rumor that Riot Games would soon allow gambling/betting in as an approved sponsorship/partnership category for teams within its esports ecosystems. Turns out that Riot told me that this just wasn’t true. Read More.
I pulled off an exclusive mid-week about Esports Engine Co-Founder Adam Apicella leaving the Vindex-owned esports production company (it was snapped up by Savvy Gaming Group’s ESL FACEIT Group at the beginning of the month). Read More.
We ended the week with two exclusive stories about Scholastic esports company PlayVS. First, the Illinois High School Association announced that it had dropped NBA 2K for its 2023 State Series, noting that PlayVS told them that it held the exclusive license. Rather than work with the company, the IHSA abandoned the game. We also exclusively reported that around 20 employees had been laid off at PlayVS this week. Read More.
Finally, I topped off my Saturday by writing about the tangled relationships of the Global Esports Federations, World Taekwondo, World Archery, and Refract Technologies. We also got a lengthy statement from the International Olympic Committee and a brief one from the Global Esports Federation. Read More.
Of course, this is just the exclusive stuff—go check out all the great work we did, and as always, thank you for reading our content. We are kind of useless without you!
Best,
James Fudge
