Apex Legends Global Series Year 3 to Feature $5M Prize Pool
The 2022-2023 season will also feature three major LAN events.
Electronic Arts announced details on the third year of esports competition for Apex Legends (Apex Legends Global Series, or ALGS for short) including three major LAN (in-person) events, a $5M USD total prize pool, and all of the official professional esports organizations that have received invites in North America, South America, EMEA, and APAC North and South for the 2022-2023 season.
Year 3 of the ALGS kicks off October with professional and amateur circuits featuring a point system similar to what was used in Year 2, and three live events (locations and exact dates to be announced at a later time). Registration for the Year 3 is already open here.
A total of 150 teams will participate from five supported regions, with 22 invited teams and an additional eight (8) that survive “Preseason Qualifiers.” Year 3 will feature three major LAN events during the season including the Split 1 Playoffs in Winter 2023, Split 2 Playoffs in Spring 2023, and the Year 3 Championship in Summer 2023.
New to Year 3 will be Regional Finals: On the last day of each Regular Season Split, regional finals will feature the top 20 teams fighting in a “Match Point series” that rewards the winner with a “guaranteed playoff spot.”
The Challenger Circuit has also been tweaked for Year 3: Winning teams from each Challenger Circuit competition will automatically be qualified for the “Split 2 Pro League Qualifier or the Last Chance Qualifier, depending on the Split.”
A spokesperson for EA confirmed that the Preseason Qualifiers, Challenger Circuit, Pro League Qualifier, and Last Chance Qualifier will remain crossplay, therefore open to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation players. LAN events—Playoffs and Championships—remain PC only, as they were in ALGS Year 2. “The Pro League is transitioning to PC only for ALGS Year 3,” the spokesperson said.
Further details about scheduling and formats can be found at the official EA blog and ALGS site. While not mentioned in Wednesday’s announcement, we assume that (similar to Year 2) Year 3 will support cross-platform play for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.

I need to watch more Apex. Their whole "match point" format really interests me.
