Newzoo Sunsets Dedicated Esports Reports
The Esports Partnership Program launched at the end of 2016 ended in Q3 or 2022.
It is truly the end of an era. In an exclusive report this morning from The Esports Advocate we learn that that go-to data and analytics company when it comes to esports and gaming has decided to stop reporting on the space in a dedicated way.
No more esports reports or projections on the industry going forward from Newzoo, the company confirmed with TEA. Also being abandoned are dedicated reports related to mobile and cloud gaming.
There were plenty of one liners flying about this morning after the story broke such as “esports pitch decks in tatters” and “thank God I won’t have to look at these made up numbers in pitch decks anymore.” Regardless of your opinion on Newzoo’s data and methodology, it was something that gave some kind of indicator about the industry, and the big fear now whispered behind closed doors is that someone else is going to enter the space, do a terrible job at it, and cause a great amount of damage to an industry that is already reeling from layoffs, lack of capital, and a harrowing economic environment.
Anyway, here’s my reporting on that story.
Since you made it this far down into the article, let me share what I am currently working on:
A positive story about Tempo Storm.
A a positive story about TSM’s new all-women Apex Legends squad.
An origin story about OMiT and its founder for “The Path.”
A story about a Team Liquid player getting the first-ever esports visa in the Netherlands.
Thanks for reading! Until next time - James
