It's interesting to think about esports companies hiring non-endemic staff, because you kind of have to worry about them "leap frogging" back to non-endemic positions. Not saying that's what happened here, but I think the "advantage" to hiring endemic talent is that they want to stay within the industry and are probably likely to stay in higher positions like this for longer.

I don't know, NFL has warmed up to esports in the last few years; I think they see the viewership on games on Twitch/YouTube and want to tap into that. Madden could be a major esport in NA with money and some heavy lifting to tweak its structure.

BTW he deserves a lot of credit for what he did with Valorant esports; Activision hired an MLB exec to lead its esports and that was not so great.

Yeah, definitely not trying to take away anything from him.

Re: NFL, I'm always going to be a bit cynical about "traditional sports as esports" because it feels like the digital analogue requires more focus on the gameplay and what makes them different from a typical player.

Traditional sports fans already have the IRL versions to enjoy (including Fantasy), so you're kind of competing with that. Local teams have way more legacy, and the idea of speculating where players are going to go (or how valuable they are where they are) seems to be much more enticing to do when there's "real people" involved.
